Job Description Summary

Penn Vet's New Bolton Center provides an internationally renowned standard of care. Located on a campus of some 700 acres in Chester County, Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center has one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital in the nation.

Position located in Kennett Square, PA. No public transportation available.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Animal Health and Clinical Service lead, the Clinical Care Technician is responsible for maintaining the safety of the patients and the staff and general animal husbandry duties. This position is an evening schedule.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Animal Health and the Clinical Service Lead, perform all duties related to general animal husbandry including grooming, feeding, stall cleaning, walking, and assisting in surgical procedures and routine and medical work-ups. Assist in maintaining general cleanliness of the clinical areas in addition to stocking clinical areas. Assisting in movement of large patients and and supplies, including down or deceased animals. Transport bedding at feed material to and from patient areas, and operating of motorized equipment such as a forklift, tractor, and standard dump truck. Other duties as assigned.

  • Providing general patient care including grooming, daily stall cleaning and disinfecting, feeding and watering, walking, applying standing wraps, and stocking clinical areas.

  • Horse handling and restraint for procedures, medical exams and surgery, hydrotherapy, and additional animal husbandry duties as assigned.

  • Maintain patient treatment areas and equipment after procedures have been completed in addition to other housekeeping or grounds keeping tasks as assigned. Documenting stall cleaning status as needed and following Bio security protocols.

  • Transporting bedding and feed material to and from patient areas, and operating a variety of motorized equipment including forklift, tractor and standard dump truck. Assisting with movement of large patients and patient supplies including transport of down or deceased animals.

  • Collaborating frequently with other members of the clinical care team.

  • Client interactions including admitting and discharging patients.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Clinical Care Technician AQualifications: High school graduate or equivalent required. 0-1 years of large animal handling experience required. Ability to perform strenuous work and tolerate exposure to weather, chemicals, and allergens required. A

Clinical Care Technician BQualifications: High school graduate or equivalent required. 1-3 years of equine experience required, and completion of additional training as assigned. Ability to perform strenuous work and tolerate exposure to weather, chemicals, and allergens required. A valid driver’s license is required.
