The Associate Editor of Wharton Magazine-a key communications vehicle to the 98,000+ alumni community as well as current and prospective students-reports to the Editor and assists with the magazine’s print and online content, from the editorial planning stage through the writing/editing process, publication, and promotion on social media channels. The Associate Editor also oversees the Class Notes section, working with the magazine’s 100+ class correspondent volunteers who submit updates for each issue. Specific duties include: Create, manage and post content for Wharton Magazine, both online and print, from story concept to final approval; edit the Class Notes section and work with our design team to coordinate art/layouts; oversee the magazine’s blog network, consisting of alumni contributors and repurposed stories from across the School; create social media content; assist with management of magazine email inbox; work with work-study students; collaborate with colleagues in Communications & Donor Relations as well as across External Affairs; occasionally travel and work nights or weekends; and additional duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.Experience professionally editing and writing is also required. Candidate must have an eye for detail, as well as excellent project, time-management, and interpersonal skills. He or she should be deadline-oriented, able to work independently and as a team member, and a creative thinker. Backgrounds in journalism and print media, as well as professional experience with social media, are strongly preferred.
