The Clinical Research Financial Specialist, Sr. is an integral member of the Office of Clinical Research (OCR) in the Perelman School of Medicine and reports to the Clinical Research Budget Manager in OCR. This senior-level position will act as a resource to the research community to support in the development of clinical trial budgets and the prospective reimbursement analysis that determines the appropriate payer for clinical trial costs. The position works to review financial language within research documents including the protocol, informed consent form, and clinical trial agreement and approves proposals in the Penn-ERA system for clinical trials conducted at the Perelman School of Medicine; is familiar with local and national coverage determinations for clinical trials and advises research study teams, including Principal Investigators, Directors, and Clinical Research Coordinators on the financial components of clinical trial administration; Develops training materials for the research community on financial planning for clinical trials and conducts education sessions, webinars and creates tip sheets; and creates the financial modules in the Penn Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) that support research billing compliance.
A Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience in clinical research finance or administration, hospital billing or accounting, or as a clinical research coordinator or research nurse; or e an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree preferred. Familiarity with clinical trial protocols and medical terminology is a plus. Must work well as part of a project team and have strong data analytic skills. Effective communication skills is a must.
