Duties

This position will provide administrative and technical leadership for the Linux Systems Administration team within Platforms Infrastructure Network Engineering in ISC Technology Services. Manage a team of six Linux Systems Administrators charged with the daily operation of 600+ Linux servers in a large enterprise environment. The team is responsible for design, architecture and management of Linux technologies as well as administration of tools and systems used on campus. Design, build, configure and operate computer hardware and Linux/Unix operating systems-based hosts; install, monitor and maintain (upgrades, fixes, security patches) Linux-based software and services; Test new computer hardware and operating system technologies, documenting and reporting on findings; maintain existing systems hardware, tracking service and repair history.Manage projects for operations initiatives including operating system upgrades, deployment of patches, disaster recovery tests and other projects, as assigned. Install, maintain and provide technical guidance for configuration management infrastructure for on- premise and Amazon Web Services cloud platform, others. Provide status regularly communicating progress to supervisors and project teams. Maintain regular contact with Local Support Providers, the central Helpdesk and key vendors via technical support channels.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience managing technical staff or acting in a team lead role or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated strong knowledge of Linux technologies and administration. Experience in a large, complex organization, with an appreciation for the complexities of developing, maintaining and shaping IT architecture, as well as experience in developing new methods and procedures for addressing problems, establishing policy and procedure, and working with new and emerging technologies, virtualization, cloud technologies, storage subsystems, and data center infrastructure. Production server administration experience, including new system builds and ongoing systems maintenance. Linux server administration experience; large scale experience preferred. Experience with configuration management technologies. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through written business communications, documentation, training delivery, and public speaking, and the ability to work well in a group setting. Experience with Puppet or other automation tools highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to handle technical projects preferred. Basic Apache and MySQL administration and experience with DNS, DHCP configuration and management on Linux a plus.
