The School of Arts and Sciences forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world’s leading research universities. We teach students across all 12 Penn schools, and our academic departments span the reach from anthropology and biology to sociology and South Asian studies.


The IT Support Specialist B provides local computing support for faculty and staff in the Math, Physics, and Astronomy depts. By installing, supporting, and maintaining a variety of technologies, finding and implementing solutions for end users, and serving as a technological consultant, the IT Support Specialist B helps these organizations make effective use of technology in all aspects of research, teaching, and administrative missions. The IT Support Specialist B co-manages part-time staff, including hiring, training, and day-to-day supervision.


A Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prior work experience in an academic environment preferred. Expertise supporting both Windows and Macintosh operating systems in a managed environment is required, including experience managing large numbers of computers through Microsoft Active Directory. Experience supporting Linux operating systems required. Familiarity with basic desktop hardware support and maintenance required. Experience with audio-visual systems, video conferencing and mobile device management highly desired. Excellent customer service and spoken/written communication skills, including ability to work and communicate with users of varying levels of expertise required. Organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and adapt to frequent change required. Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision in a self-motivated and self-directed manner required. Ability to coordinate effectively in a large organization is essential. Experience preparing documentation and performing personal training is highly desirable.
