The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Emergency Medicine. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. ABEM certified.
Teaching responsibilities may include demonstrated excellence in support of Perelman School of Medicine student rotations in the Department, including EM200 (core clerkship) and EM308 (sub-internship) and support GME rotations in the Department. Additional teaching responsibilities include lectures, journal clubs, case conferences, simulation teaching, small group discussions, and others. Enthusiasm and dedication to educating our residents and students is highly valued in our department.
Clinical responsibilities may include providing outstanding clinical care to Emergency Department patients presented to HUP-Mercy Philadelphia site. Patients seen in our EDs include high acuity, complex patients, as well as patients with less acute illnesses and injuries.
The primary goal of the HUP-Mercy Philadelphia site ED is to provide the highest level of clinical care in the region. Mercy is a community hospital in West Philadelphia, with 45k plus ED visits per year. (As of next year, Mercy ED will be run by Penn Medicine and Penn EM.)
As Medical Director, responsibilities will include contributing to and leading the HUP-Mercy Philadelphia site ED; fostering and maintaining relationships with external organizations that significantly impact operations and its various programs and services; regularly attend leadership meetings; access clinical staffing needs and develop a program to meet medical staffing composition needs; develop an annual budget and capital expenditure plan for the Department, overseeing HUP/Mercy credentialing and adherence to the medical staff bylaws and policies.
The Medical Director will also be responsible for faculty appointments to the Department. In achieving these goals, the following guiding principles are expected:
•The HUP-Mercy Philadelphia site ED will collaborate with clinical colleagues and Hospital Administration to develop a patient centered approach to clinical care; • The HUP-Mercy Philadelphia site ED will continue to participate in the ongoing efforts to establish an integrated Emergency Medicine service across the Health System.
