Penn Engineering’s Computing and Educational Technology Service (CETS) is seeking a Network Engineer C/D: C Level: Under general direction, provide network support to students, faculty, and staff in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Plan, design, develop, and install building and school wide LANs to support SEASnet, wireless, and VoIP technologies. Diagnose and resolve complex networking problems involving equipment hardware and operating systems or networking infrastructure. Track and evaluate new networking technologies and products. Use computer programming to monitor, maintain, and improve network infrastructure. Complete project work as assigned. D Level: Provide network support to students, faculty, and staff in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Provide technical leadership to less senior technical staff members. Plan, design, develop, and install building and school wide LANs to support SEASnet, wireless, and VoIP technologies. Resolve the most complex networking problems. Provide procurement and usage of network management tools for identification and analysis of networking problems. Specify new networking technologies and products. Act as project leader for large scale IT network projects. Represent Penn Engineering on University-wide technical committees and participate in strategic planning.


C Level: A Bachelor’s Degree in information technology-related field and a minimum of two years of experience or equivalent combination of education experience; strong knowledge of network fundamentals and experience in network routing and network security devices and technologies such as routers, switches, firewalls, IPS and IDS systems, especially Junos. Good understanding of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems. Experience writing/maintaining computer programs, preferably Perl or Python. Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills with ability to support a diverse set of clients; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through written business communications, documentation and training delivery. D level: Same as above, minimum of three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of computer programming and operating systems.
