A full-time research specialist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kathy Fange Liu (Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics). The candidate will conduct and facilitate research investigating the functions of enzyme-mediated RNA modifications in energy metabolism. The candidate will need to perform general molecular and cellular techniques in an RNA biochemistry lab, such as cell culture, DNA and RNA preparation, PCR, plasmid cloning, Western blotting, etc. Specific experiments will be designed by the Principal Investigator or by other lab personnel, but the candidate is expected to modify and troubleshoot procedures as needed, assist in developing the appropriate protocols. Research Specialist B will be involved in planning, conducting and analyzing experiments aimed at studying the molecular mechanisms of RNA modifications in energy metabolism regulation and development of new sequencing methods and applications. Research Specialist B will provide technical support to enable our laboratory to function effectively and will adhere to standard procedures and guidelines. Research Specialist B may perform sample collections, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results. Research Specialist B will carry out experiments under the management of a supervising scientist to allow senior scientific personnel to concentrate on the more complex analytical processes in the laboratory. Research Specialist B will independently design and perform assigned experiments, develop a standard protocol. Process and analyze results. Keep up to date with external research carried out in their field of study.In addition, the candidate will also provide general lab support by managing and maintaining laboratory supplies, and participate in data analyses, presentations, and manuscript publication. The candidate will also keep accurate lab notebooks.
Research Specialist A: Bachelor’s Degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.Research Specialist B: Bachelor’s Degree and 1 to 3 year’s of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
