Job Description Summary

In a lead capacity, the Senior Research Implementation Lead will be managing the day-to-day operations for several research projects. The incumbent will oversee existing project activities, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, support the implementation of new projects and meet specified timelines.

Job Description

Position leads implementation of key Water Center programs and applied research, with a primary focus on stakeholder engagement and leadership development at the intersection of integrated water and watershed management, water affordability, equity, and climate resilience. Projects occur across diverse geographies and at various scales. This role involves development of implementation strategies for the equitable co-production of knowledge, financial and personnel supervision of multiple existing and planned projects, and interaction with stakeholder groups across social, economic, racial, political, and geographic divides. Position involves regular interaction with project funders, detailed report preparation, subgrantee and vendor oversight, and assisting Water Center leadership in the development of competitive funding proposals.


  • Lead day-to-day implementation of multiple programs and projects including planning, financial management, stakeholder interactions, oversight of subgrantees and vendors, and generating high quality deliverables

  • Plan and implement complex stakeholder interactions involving watershed-scale issues of water quality and quantity

  • Contribute meaningfully to Water Center project planning, budgeting, funding strategy and proposal development

  • Collaborate with Water Center leadership to effectively develop WCP strategy to ensure long-term WCP leadership in regional, national, and global water challenges

  • Represent WCP and the University at academic and professional conferences and other public events. Effectively manage competing stakeholder interests in various fora.

  • Mentor junior staff on the effective performance of their duties


  • Bachelor’s Degree in water environment or stakeholder engagement-related field with 2-3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required

  • 4-7 Years experience and proven track record in developing and leading stakeholder engagement processes that bring highly diverse stakeholders together (focus on working across divides-- urban/rural, political, economic, etc.) strongly preferred

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills

  • Well-developed project management experience including budget and human resource management, meeting reporting requirements, contract management

  • Well versed in both tactical and strategic thinking and the ability to switch between the two

  • Significant experience in working at the intersection of DEIJ and (urban) environmental work

  • Creative and effective approach to undertaking stakeholder facilitation in both virtual and in-person settings

  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively in both written and oral formats

  • Experience working in the environmental field, ideally in water and/or urban settings
