Job Description

The Sr. Research Investigator in the Computer and Information Sciences department in the School of Engineering and Applied Science will:

  • Conduct advanced interdisciplinary research in real-time, cyber-physical systems (CPS) and distributed systems. Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to):

    + Developing novel algorithms, modeling and analysis methods, and systems techniques that tightly combine formal methods, network science, real-time systems and distributed systems research for building efficient, predictable, secure and reliable large-scale CPS and distributed systems. + Collaborating with physicians, legal scholars and other computer scientists and engineers at Penn to apply results to practical use cases in critically-need domains, such as smart connected health, smart transportation, safety- and mission-critical distributed robotics, and the next-generation data centers and cloud computing systems. Investigate potential application and implications of the research from the legal standpoint. + Working with students to build prototype implementations for public releases.
  • Participate in and lead grant research proposals to be submitted to various funding agencies.

  • Write reports and papers in support of research and findings.

  • Mentor doctoral students and coordinate research activities to advance research progress.

Qualifications:A Ph.D. and a minimum of five years of experience in research, teaching and mentoring in an academic institution; demonstrated history of successfully obtaining funding in support of academic research projects; extensive experience in leading and managing large-scale research projects; expertise in formal methods; distributed systems, real-time, probabilistic and hybrid systems; network science and health-care related research is strongly preferred.
